After having read, The Ruins, I’ve decided to settle on some short stories. The long novels tend to keep me exhausted after, so I needed something light. So I decided to read something from Jeffrey Archer. I’ve wanted to read one of this books for a long time after having listened to an interview with him on CBC radio a few years ago. (more…)

I Scare Myself

This morning I woke up, on the couch. It was barely 1am. The apartment was dark. The lights on my router weren’t twinkling, none of the lamps I had left on, were on. My apartment felt dead. All I could hear was this drilling sound coming through one of the open windows in the bedroom. (more…)

Would Perfume Make An Ugly Person Better Looking?
April 28, 2008 · 2 Comments
A few weeks ago I bought a vampire based novel from a new author. The cooments and reviews on the back of the book made it look promising. And it was a short 250 pager, so I thought, let’s try it out.
I started reading the book last week. The author knows how to use words so that the narrative flows easily and not jerky like some other novels I’ve read. I find that when a book is well written, it reads by itself; in the sense that the brain can predict the next word that’s about to be read. And when that next word is correct, the reading becomes easier. When the next word is not what you’d expect, then reading becomes jerky. Reading also becomes very jerky when the author uses a lot of harsh sounding syllables. (more…)

Caught And Escaped…Again
April 25, 2008 · 1 Comment
All I can say is, wow!
“The Philippine National Police will not let this pass, the long arm of the law will soon catch up with him,” Razon said.
Yes, the law will soon catch up with him…again…eventually…for him to escape again.

What I Have Learned About Writing From Reading, “The Ruins”
April 25, 2008 · No Comments
Warning for anyone planning to read the book or seeing the movie, these may be spoilers for you? BTW, I have seen the movie trailer and although the essence is the same, the movie is quite different than the book.
Scenes Played Out of Sync For Maximum Terror
Something I have noticed towards the end of the book is that Scott Smith writes some of the scenes in reverse chronological order to provide maximum grueling effect to the reader. (more…)

Penis Snatchers Arrested
April 24, 2008 · 1 Comment
What’ll be next, turning penises to frogs. And then…
“But when you try to tell the victims that their penises are still there, they tell you that it’s become tiny or that they’ve become impotent. To that I tell them, ‘How do you know if you haven’t gone home and tried it’,” he said.
I don’t know what this will do to their social life. But eh, maybe they’ll appear on Jerry Springer on a show titled, “women who love men with small penises.”

The Goldren Ratio In Writing
April 22, 2008 · 4 Comments
Special mathematical numbers have always intrigued me, especially when I want to apply them to something that I am doing such as photography, writing, etc.
For writing, perhaps using the fibonacci numbers to determine when certain key conflicts occur. The Golden Mean could be used to determine when to build up the tension within a good horror book. (more…)

H-o-t F-o-r W-o-r-d-s

I’ve decided to remove all the “H o t F o r W o r d s” posts. Sorry Marina. This is just ridiculous. Everyone is looking for any information they can get on her, as if her site isn’t enough. A good chunk of my hits are for just that.
As much as I love the education she provides. My blog isn’t dedicated to her and everyone who comes here obviously knows who she is and knows about her site so really, there is no need to keep these blog posts.
Again, sorry Marina. I love your site and I check it out regularly.
