I’ve been looking for some story writing software forever. Every year when the bug bites I go hunting and never get anything worth buying or even downloading for demo. But every year I do find this free novel writing application which starting now I think I will actually use.
The piece of software I’m referring to is yWriter. The application is a bit intimidating at first for the new novelist. But the more I’m learning and the more I try to get myself organized the more I’m attracted to it.
This application, I guess like most writer’s application, is written to get the job done. But this one is actively developed by a published author who uses it himself to write his own novels. It seems to have everything that I need, chapter management, scenes, characters, locations — and the all important export tool to a myriad of formats.
I am currently using the demo version of PageFour which is a great application that I will most likely purchase. PageFour keeps it simple and is great for beginning writer’s who don’t know yet how to get themselves organized or for writers who want to keep it simple. And the user interface is super clean, minimalistic and non-annoying. It provides a tree view to help writers break down their work into folders.
Try them both and you decide.
